Pollution and skincare

As the world has begun to open up, pollution has grown considerably. Pollution is not only bad for the environment, but it is also bad for our skin. Having an effective skincare routine is vital if you are outdoors every day or planning for a vacation.

Continue reading about its consequences and how can we protect our skin!

WHAT ARE THE EFFECTS OF POLLUTION ON THE SKIN?

Pollution does more than acne and hyperpigmentation on your face. Toxins accumulate on your skin and plug your pores, reducing oxygenation. As a consequence, your skin strangles, loses its luster, and develops blemishes. Furthermore, when the skin comes in touch with pollution, it produces free radicals which accelerate skin aging. (1)

Pollution nanoparticles are so minute that they move through the sky and deposit in the ground and water, exposing everyone to them everywhere. The trapped particles in pores, trigger breakouts and harm the deeper layers of skin, that's where wrinkles and discoloration develop. (2)

Although most airborne pollutants need not instantly permeate the skin. They harm the skin's surface, making it much easier for pollutants to infiltrate the skin. Fine dust also gets trapped inside the pores, causing long-term harm. Simply cleaning your face will not eliminate polluting particles that have entered your pores, and you'll need an efficient skin care regimen.

Here are a few pointers that might help you to curate an efficient skincare regime

  • Begin with a mild cleaner. Cleansing can help to lower the particle burden of contaminants on the skin, particularly particulate matter. Use a mild cleanser: harsh soaps deplete the skin's natural oils, eroding the skin's barrier.

  • Once or twice per week, exfoliate your skin. Exfoliating not only unclogs your pores and removes dead skin cells, but also prevents pollutants, debris, and bacteria from accumulating. Cleaning & Exfoliating the face will also re-balance the skin's moisture level with an active ingredient-rich serum

  • This should be followed by a moisturizer that suits your skin type. It will help to restore your skin's protective layer.

  • Use sunscreen on a daily basis. Because it is reflective and does not need to be infused into the skin to operate, a sunscreen containing zinc oxide or titanium dioxide should be included in a regular morning skincare regimen.

Make exercise, sleep, and good food a priority. These activities improve general skin health by bolstering the skin's natural barrier function. All of these boost metabolism and aid in the elimination of pollutants from the body. Consume meals high in antioxidants and healthy fats.
